The mission of the Cooperative Middle School is to provide a challenging, safe and healthy learning environment designed to meet the social, emotional and intellectual needs of all students.
The Cooperative Middle School is located in Stratham, New Hampshire and is administered by the Exeter Region Cooperative School District which serves the towns of Brentwood, Exeter, East Kingston, Kensington, Newfields, and Stratham. The student population is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students from these six towns.

GBR Rowing Excursion for 8th grade
Excursion Overview:
Eighth-grade students will travel to GBR's boathouse at Jackson's Landing in Durham, NH. All students will receive instruction from qualified coaches on land, covering proper rowing techniques, equipment handling (boats and oars), and what to expect on the water. Boats will launch with a combination of students and GBR volunteers, ensuring that each boat includes experienced athletes and coxswains.
The majority of the time will be spent on the water, where students will first learn to row in pairs before gradually progressing to groups of 4–6, with the potential to row in an eight-person boat depending on the group's skill progression. Coaches will introduce fun challenges designed to emphasize teamwork, body awareness, and critical thinking skills to develop strategy.\ Excursion Details:
- Dates: Friday, June 6th & Monday, June 9th, 2025 (If interest exceeds 40 students, we will offer two separate excursion dates due to transportation capacity.)
- Departure Time: 8:20 AM (Period 2)
- Return Time: 1:20 PM (End of period 6)
- Lunch: A designated lunch break will be provided. Students must bring their own lunch or request a bagged lunch from the school cafeteria.
- What to Bring? A filled water bottle. Athletic attire and sneakers. Bring a change of clothes to leave at school in case a student gets wet.
- Waiver: Great Bay Rowing will provide a liability waiver for parents/guardians to sign.
- Swim Test Waiver: Parents/guardians must also sign a swim test waiver, acknowledging that their child meets the following requirements:
- The participant has demonstrated the ability to swim 100 yards and tread water or float for five minutes without a flotation device or external support.
- The participant completed the test wearing clothing similar to what they will wear while rowing (e.g., shirt, socks, shorts, or Lycra tights).
- Accessibility: Transportation and adapted equipment will be provided for students requiring additional support services.
- Cost: $0. Great Bay Rowing is volunteering its services to provide this exposure opportunity for CMS students.
Commitment & Expectations:
This form is for serious inquiries only. Students and parents/guardians are responsible for completing this form together. By completing the form, students acknowledge their commitment to attending this excursion. All participants must be in good academic standing, adhere to the CMS Code of Conduct & Behavior, and take responsibility for following up with their teachers regarding any missed assignments.
